Shade Tree Mechanic
this will be a long one. sorry, but i'm at the end of my rope.
i have a 90 LS auto. i just did the rear main seal. that was awful, btw. i replaced the carrier axle seal while i was in there. took days to do. i didn't have help on the re-install.
the day before i parked it for the main seal repair, a terrible exhaust leak ruptured in my A pipe. right where the hanger is to bolt to the block. i can mig weld that myself, just havent yet...no chance. i drove the car the day after i got it back together. i'm acourier, so i had to. my gas was terrible. 150 miles less per that tank of gas! bloody awful. the power loss was pathetic. and the car was LOUD.
that night i found my leak, but too late at night to fix.
Next day i decided that driving all over the metroplex was stupid and went to fix my problem. yet did not make it. a block down the road the car died. like i had ran out of gas. i thought all the exhaust BS had roughed up my engine enough to jump time. i feared greatly.
now comes all of the repairs. more BS. but didn't spend a great deal yet. i have another 90 to help with parts. :
the timing belt was a bit slack. yet in time. tensioner and spring replaced anyway. i was in there so why not. the car has 262k on it.
im getting fuel and fire. the fuel pressure was checked, cracked the housing on the regulator and had to get another..
the plugs are blackened. so we thought distributor/coil. moved the plugs. ran fine in my other car. i moved the ecu, the entire distributor: wires & plugs and all into the LS from my GS. GS ran fine on all of the LS parts. LS: zip.
at the end of the trouble shooting guide in my Honda/Acura book, it says to swap a known working ECU as an all else fails. we did that.
the car cranks and acts like it wants to start. just like it did before all of this running around. i'm dumbfounded.
my only thought is that the exhaust valves are damaged some how. cause it seems that the plugs are getting "wet" enough that they are not firing. open valves and oil passing the rings? but would all four rings fail at once.?
if anybody can help i thank you so much. and thank you for reading this "book" of woes.
