88 LS Hatch Winding Sound in 5th gear

Just picked up my 88 LS and when I shift into 5th gear I can hear a winding sound. I can't really think of another way to describe it but I'm a little concerned and not sure what to check first. I thought I'd come to you guys before I take it into the shop and pay them to tell me what's wrong or that nothing is wrong.

Definitely change your transmission oil

My 98 Integra does the same, I changed my tranny fluid, & I was told it is my 5th gear bearing that will need to be replaced or just get another tranny.

Great advice! Time to add that to the to do list.

Start with the fluid change and drain it through a paint strainer to see if there is a lot of Metal debris in it, if so might be time to pull it apart....
