6x9 enclosure?

I have seen people put 6x9s in the hatch cover and was thinking of doing it myself. I was wondering if anyone has tried to enclose the 6x9s from the bottom of the hatch cover. Would this help sound quality at all?
Thanks!

Most if not all aftermarket 6x9 format speakers are meant for use in free-air such as the hatch space. From my own experience you'd do better to reinforce the hatch cover w/ thicker material such as 12mm Baltic birch from the underside. Make it as rigid as possible and mount the speakers in there free-air.

The other point is where the sides of the cover come down & meet the trunk area. If the cover rests on a lip, use strips of velcro along that area. When the cover is in place, it will be locked down tight. The less the cover moves the better midbass quality will be when the speakers are operating.
