50/50 Water/Alcohol

Would running a water/alcohol kit allow me to run a higher compression ratio for my boosted setup, and if so, how effective is it? I've researched it and understand that it cools the air charge and offers benefits of running higher octane, but to what extent so. Is it like running race gas or like running pump gas with a little boost...I only ask because I want to keep my compression at about 9.5:1 for a little more streetability than 9:1, but don't want it to effect the amount of boost I can use.

J13 sooo mad
I believe it makes it safer for your tune, and allows you to be able to add a little more timing in as well, but Im not 100%. A good question for your tuner.

Do you have any E85 in your area?

Shut up baby, I know it!
Dont look at it as regulating your compression ratio. Methanol/water injection suppresses knock, and allows you to run more ignition timing, the cooling effect it has on the intake charge is a secondary side effect. 9.5:1 compression is HARDLY "high compression", you can run that compression on regular pump gas as long as its tuned properly for it.

im running 9.8:1 in my boosted setup (or will be once i get this bitch running)

Stop posting on ClubIntegra and hook up the fucking wires. ^^

To the OP:
I agree with the above comments. 9.5:1 is done a lot of pump gas without alcohol, you should be fine.

Yes in lives in SC, its the south's E85 mecca.

And OP, dont go meth, go E85 with two maps (E85 and 93). Meth is a PITA, and ive seen a fair share of motors blow from an improperly functioning system that was "supposed" to have built in fail safes. Because s*** happens, and when it does on meth you can kiss your engine good bye.

E85 will get you all of the benefits of meth and then some (actually alot more). If you have any questions on E85 ask away, I also have a FAQ thread on E85 on here somewhere, you can search for that too.

There is a station that has E85, can you explain what it does tuning wise? I only understand that it's ethanol and supposed to be better for the environment, etc.

Definitely gonna search and read that article. Quick question, would it allow me to run a close to stock GSR compression w/ a good amount of boost? I'm hoping to reach around 500 but I know it's gonna be dangerous with 10:1 CR, but at the same time, I want some driveability outside of boost...or more generally, how much safer is E85 than pump?

(edit) Read an article and cleared it all up, still want to see results of a 10:1 CR with lots of boost, but, I got a better understanding. :D

The E85 will help you run that higher compression due to its robust knock resistance and lower temps. However on a boosted set-up its still ideal to keep the CR lower, however its not impossible. E85 is a much safer fuel than pump gas, and better for the health of the engine overall. Its typically a matter of availability with E85. As cost wise (with current prices and my current mpg figures) I spend an extra $5 per tank of E85 so its more than worth the increase in performance.

Only issue I would see with E85 is the extra fuel consumption. However, I don't plan to daily it, just weekend warrior so I'll keep considering it. Could someone post the link for the FAQ on CI? I can't seem to find it through the search box...

Well E85 is alot cheaper than 93 octane. So although you use more E85 its cheaper than 87 so the cost isnt that big of a deal. The inconvenience of 13mpg on a 15 gallon tank is the real pita part.

And ill go find my FAQ

Here it is, updated it as well
