I've been interested in ordering a 5 pt harness, but before I buy it I wanna know if i can install it without a roll cage. Is it possible?

you would need to get a harness bar, if you install them without a rollcage or harness bar it can be very dangerous, you can usually find a harness bar for 100-150 bucks

Do you plan on tracking the car? If not keep the OEM safety belts. It's not worth the risk to half ass it and just use a harness bar. If you are gonna get harnesses get a cage.

It's not safe! My civic had racing seats and 4 point harness without any harness bar/roll cage. If you really want, ill take some pics of where the harness is mounted to. But its not safe at all.

It is actually illegal to use a 5 point on the street. A cop can give you a "no seat belt" ticket if you are wearing a 5 point. Why exactly do you want/need a 5 point anyways? And you need a rollbar with a harness bar in order to use a 5 point correctly. Anything else is ghetto/ricer/unsafe.

No fucks given.
Agreed on the uselessness in a street car and them being illegal. Besides, the OEM seatbelts are made by Takata... Madd JDM, y0!

I have a racing seat and a roll bar, and yet I still use my OEM belt on the streets. I have it ran properly through the seat to make it as safe as possible.

You can run a 5 pt harness without a roll bar, is it safe? No. Is it my life? No. Takata is the only company that I know that you can do this with. Should you use a bucket seat? Yes. I suggest doing everything, or none of it. I personally run Takata MPH (original style) harnesses in my car with the anti sub strap without an oem 3pt. But I also don't drive my car ever. And please do us all a favor. Buy backing plates.

I just want to know why? If you aren't tracking the car you have no reason at all to use a 5 point, besides to try to look cool.

If you really really really want a harness. Schroth makes a 4 pt anti submarine harness. Safe and practical and I think it's dot legal.

The OEM safety system is just that, a system.
In a street car the lack of a rollcage, collapseable seats, retractable 3 pt harness, and the airbag all work together to provide optimal and practical safety.
In a racecar the rollcage, rigid seats, 5 or 6 point non-retractable harnesses, no airbag, and a helmet all work together to provide maximum safety.

Once you replace components from either system, without having the whole system, the safety equipment can become more of a hazard than a safety measure.

I see. It is kind of impractical. I was just curious, because my friend has a four or five point harness in his engine stock civic along with a bucket seat.
