2000 Hatch Lift Support Installation?

Lift supports crapped out on my 2000 GS. I picked up some replacement Stabilus supports from the auto store, and now need to install them. However, the included instructions are garbage, and the Stabilus video on Youtube doesn't offer a lot help either. Anyone do this before and have some pointers? It's been in the twenties (temperature wise) recently, and I'd like to spend as little amount of time outside as possible. I did search the forum and google but haven't found a ton.

Thanks!

I dont understand your confusion. Prop open the hatch with a broom or a friend and replace the shocks. Theres 4 bolts, 2 on each side. Pop the plastic covers off with a screw driver. Dont over tighten.

I see the plastic covers on the Stabilus supports, but not the OEM ones. Almost looks like I have to unscrew the actual nub it's connected to to get it out.

But I'm almost positive that's not correct.

That's correct, the plastic cover just unsnaps. And, make sure something is holding the hatch up so it doesn't fall on you.

Thanks.

And the hatch won't stay up at all... So I'll be sure to have something sturdy in there securely.
