Hello, New here, been using the site for a while, you know that same old story, tbh i probably would have posted a proper intro post at some point, but as i am moving soon and need this done, i figure this will be okay for now.
1990 Acura Integra LS 5 speed 230k miles.
So my problem started with a distributor. I had a MSD distributor and coil installed. Coil wire fell off while driving and grounded out, frying the module, or at least thats whats to be assumed, because when i went to pick n pull and got a new dizzy / coil, not new new but you get the point, and got it installed it actually started. Plus testing the firing from the spark plug wires the spark was intermittent.
Anyways, I bought the dizzy and coil, got a new cap and wires because the MSD ones were incompatible. Got it put on and it started up after some adjustments but the idle is realllll low. It just sits at the zero, sometimes sounds like its misfiring made some adjustments and now its just a really low idle and if you try to apply the accelerator pedal it just dies. So we start looking for a vacuum leak or something along those lines. We start it, go through the carb cleaner spary motions and nothing happens.
Well we get it warmed up all the way and it starts to whistles, so we locate the whistle at the Starting Air Valve or Air Boost Valve, located on the intake manifold next to the dashpot diaphragm.
So most of what I have read, states that this is only on A/T models, it also states that in the haynes manual. I read a few other posts, saying that when removed the car ran fine. Well we got it to run with a normal ish idle by pinching the bigger hose closed. We were able to apply the accelerator pedal and everything. Didn't try to drive it, because as soon as we let go of the hose it drops idle and dies again.
That was last night, well thismorning when trying the exact same thing, it didnt work. Kragen/Orielly, Napa, Autozone, none of them even have this part in their databases....let alone know what it is.
So basically, the car won't start and or stay started. We tried unplugging the TPS and plugging it back in. We did a few other things just short of tearing the intake manifold apart and cleaning it all out. Any suggestions of what we should do? I don't have much money, so if it comes down to having to spend anything upwards of like 100$ then i'm just gonna sell it, since i have to move.
