1990 integra trouble starting

hi im ew to the page, but any who just bought a 1990 integra with 155,000 miles and today i was driving car was running fine i shifted gears car lost power while driver and backfiring. i pulled over and it would not strt again it was cranking but it would back fire. my mechenic said its distributor has any1 had this problem? i just want be sure cuz he checked plugs and he said its distributor or the cat is clogged so any1 shed light upon this situation?

you know anyone wit a integra swap his to urs and see if it starts if not then check other things not an answer but a suggestion
