1989 LS rpms low...

hey everyone,
My '89 LS has been stalling a bit while stopping, and so after checking the oil I read how to adjust the idle and did so.

The engine ran faster but then the rpms slid down again once it ran for about 30 seconds. They sit at around 750 when the car is just idling or stopped. Also, my engine light comes on after driving, and the engine seems to kinda jump and "work harder" when the light's on but it won't stall as easily.

I'm getting it checked once I get paid but I thought I'd fish for some ideas.

Take it to any major repair shops, they usually check OBD systems for free, and can tell you what that lights saying, which will give you a very good idea where to look for your problem, as for idle, its probally supposed to be around 500RPM'S at idle for manual trans.

it's an auto tranny. and the light blinks fourteen times fast and then two slow.

I guess from research that it's the idle air control valve?

And does anyone think that cleaning the valve would help the rpms stay steady or get higher?
