1989 Integra Clutch Problems

Hello all,

First let me apologize as I am definitely a newbie when it comes to this stuff. I am hoping to get some advice on the direction I should go with my integra.

Recently, I began having problems with my clutch. I found it hard to shift into certain gears and it got to the point where it would only shift with the clutch pedal to the floor.

Upon returning home one evening, I came to a stop light, pressed the clutch to shift gears and it felt like the pressure on the clutch pedal gave way. At first it seemed to be stuck in first, but after having the car towed I found that I can shift into all the individual gears without pressing the pedal as if the clutch is engaged and stuck. I can start the car, but when it is running all it does is grind when you attempt to shift gears.

My question is does this sound like the clutch itself has to be replaced or is it maybe one of the cylinders associated with the clutch?

I am trying to figure out what is wrong before I take it to a shop and get taken for a ride when that may not be necessary.

I apologize if this has been asked before--I tried to search the forums for a similar thread with no success.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

To be on the safe side...

I am going to replace the clutch. As far as I know this has not ever been done. I really didn't want to sell it anyways..

my car doing the same thing. tell me if you fix the problem.
one of my friend said it maybe a clutch bearing or something.
I changed both my master and slave cylinder and no use. so im stuck.

Two guesses...
One of the torsion springs located in the friction disc itself has fallen out and is wedged between the dics and diafram spring, symptoms will be hard to push pedal and clutch not releasing fully causing it hard to get into all gears grinding etc,....

OR

Pressure plate diafram spring broken and a piece fell down into and in between the the pressure plate and disc same as above. Seen both of these issues many times.

I have an 87 and was not aware that 86-89 had a hydralic system? they are cable operated and are adjustable manually as the disc wears out, you should have a bit of play in the clutch pedal when ajusted right

Either way, easy to pull the trans and take a peek :)

ya somethings weird is gonna on with my clutch too. nothin that extreme though. ive had my 95 integra for about 3 months now and 3 times ive felt the pedal go soft and looked in the resevoir and it was empty. so i filled it up and it worked fine...except for the third time. i was in seattle over the weekend and it went soft on me but when i filled up the master cylinder nothing happened. i drove all the way home and it was soft. soon as i turned it off and pumped it a few times i started the car and she was good to go. it still feels a little bit mushy when the car is cold but once i start driving its ok. anyone know what i should do?
