'00 LS, obd2 boost options?

Okay, this may be kinda long, so please bear with me. I'll try and put cliffs at the bottom for you TLDR types.

I have a '00 LS with mild boltons: CAI, 4-1 header, catless exhaust. My brother has a formerly boosted LS (now it's just blown the fack up =P) and riding in that back when it was running has had me debating boost since I got the car. So what's my problem?

Well...lemme tell ya.

I live in one of 7? counties in the state of Wisconsin that require 'emissions' testing on 96+ vehicles. It is a plug-in test, done every two years. From what I have researched, all it does is check the MIL status, readiness monitors, and possibly the VIN? As such, running a chipped obd1 ECU is out of the question. My brother tried that when he was boosted and it obviously failed. I am about 85% certain I need to retain the stock ECU.

SO! I need to find some way to tune the car while retaining the stock computer. Queries on other forums have yielded answers from "You're screwed, pal" to mentions of using a VAFC. However, I was unable to find anyone that had actually DONE something like this and had made it work. So I figured I'd extend the question here, see if anyone had ever ran any kind of tuning that retained a stock computer that actually worked well.

CLIFFS:

-'00 LS
-Want to boost
-Need to run stock obd2 computer for emissions
-HOW TO TUNE!?!?

Thanks.

You should find a tuning shop capable of tuning your car to start, then see what they can do for you. They can probably yield more answers anyways. Besides, if you can't get a tune within 1000 miles it may not be a viable option. (That's an exaggeration, i'm sure you can get it tuned no problem.)

King motorsports is about an hour away, I'm hoping to have my car tuned there. I will have to shoot them an email and see what they recommend.

Expensive. Where in WI are you located? Curt from dynotuned cold probably help you out. There are a few shops in and near the madison area. Nate from Midwest Hybrids (now Captial City Performance) is another one...although he's hard to get on the phone sometimes even with his friends.

The answer is to modifiy the PGM-FI system so that it can be easily swapped back to stock for inspection. For the stock ECU to be happy it needs all the stock components - injectors, O2, MAP, catalyst, etc

Usually the hardest part of the swap is the injectors because of the connector is different between OBD1 and OBD2. There are two solutions to that - you can dremel the tab off the stock OBD2 injector to fit an OBD1 clip OR if you are using EV14/USCAR injectors you can use connector adapters.

You can keep the turbo installed and run stock injectors/ECU, just keep out of the throttle and dont boost. You can also remove the wastegate spring to prevent any boost from being generated. A built engine with larger discplacement or different compression the fueling requirements are not an issue. Even ignition timing at low load is not an issue. The only component the stock ECU may have issues running is an aftermarket cam.
