*ahem* if i may throw my 2 cents on the subject?
this is not towards anybody, just towards the subject at hand.. if i offend somebody, let me know..
Street racing is dangerous, we all know this. when i was living in Houston, street racing was really the only thing to do there if you drove a tuner, ricer, muscle, or truck that was bagged or lowered, and you tried to run it (key word run). there was a little strip of road in Houston, called Rankin Road. thats where ALL the tuners, etc used to gather late at night, to drag. it was a fairly long piece of road, with everybody parked on the sides of the road itself, they would run almost the whole length of road, then sometimes keep going on to avoid the cops that would usually later on try to shut down the scene. after Mexicans (no offence to our fellow Latino CI members, its what really happened) started showing up with their F150's and silverados, everybody stopped going there, and tried to find other places to run at. yes, quite a bit of wrecks happened there, but right after one would happen, somebody would be on the phone calling an ambulance to the scene. and those that stayed behind to help the victim(s) usually got ticketed for street racing or something of the matter.. now street racing there still goes on, but mainly on empty streets, and in the early morning hours. anytime i ever street raced, i always picked an area that had no innocent by standards around, so nobody would get hurt. and i usually always lost races because i was always worried about wrecking or hurting somebody, so if i race now, its just usually light to light, or just an acceleration battle to see who takes off quickest.. like where i live now, the main drag of the little po-dunk town i live close to is the longest road in town, and is heavily patrolled by cops late at night. street racing is nothing here. the gay crap where people take their dirt cars and go in a damn circle is the big thing here.. its f*cking stupid in my opinion, just like nascar. but, when people want to "race" as they call it, they take it to this long stretch of road out in the hills and run them. yeah some people have died from that.. but why? from doing it in trucks. top-heavy trucks. lifted up, big ass tires, they try to take this one easy turn and they end up in the ditch. dead. or seriously injured. im just like every other person with a sports car, or import car, you like to see how it handles and runs, so every once in a while you speed around curves, seeing how the handling plays out, how fast you can go on one stretch, nobody has to hide it lol but since there are NO road courses anywhere near where i live, the only option i have is to drive the back way to town, which is through the hills, a nice 5 miles "track" as i call it, i never race people through there, because there are quite a bit of blind turns and really sharp turns on occasion, but i have seen some people end up in the ditch upside down.. and ended up in the local po-dunk town newspaper under deaths. the "street racing" scene here is very very small. as in almost non-exsisting. i see where you are coming from SexySSB(sp), im not really "against" street racing, but at the same time, i am.. if that makes any sense, i try to caution my friends in houston that still street race, and most of them have stuff done to their cars because its better than stock, (like myself). i tell them to be careful when they do that, and be on the lookout for folks and not hit anybody, and i have gotten quite a few of my buddies to stop the street racing, and do it on a drag strip or hit up a track if they ever get a chance to go to one. so now they just do the car show thing and have a pretty neat car crew going on.
