How can i make my Integra faster?

\so i have a 1990 LS automatic. it is really slow off the line. even if i floor it, It takes like 5-10 seconds to get to 20 mph. then it accelerates fine after that. has anyone driven a 90's automatic? Do you think something is wrong. Or is the 90's automatic transmission just really slow?

also what mods do you guys suggest for power in the low rpms

exhaust,intake, pretty much any bolt on will help. but yes something is wrong, you could have bad plugs wires stopped up cat. anything really can cause it. suggest doing a tune up if you havent already. i know everyone says that but half the time the people asking the question neglect to keep the routine maintenance up cause they want power mods put on. fuel filter could cause it. need some more info though, does the motor make a funny noise while excelrating, does it shake, anything that doest feel right or sound right or even if it does but you think u might be wrong let us know so we can give a better diagnoses.

well your problem is that it's automatic....it would be pointless to add all that stuff to an automatic car.....pick yourself up a manual 1990's one, theyre all over craigslist, usually in the $1k range.

reply to EMD. yes it has new plugs wires distributer cap and battery. but to go into further detail on the acceleration issue. it just creeps to 15 mph real slow even if i floor it then all the sudden it will accelerate fast and shift. after that i can accel ok but not that good. like for comparison my car before this was a 98 civic lx. soch pretty stock not that fast but i could at least accelerate to keep up with traffic. this one cant accelereate to pull out in traffic or keep up at first. the civic was an automatic too. i think what might be wrong is that the in the intake manifold and throttle body like its gunked up? i dunno.

i dont kno if the other problems i have are related but i will list them

broken speedo cable

sumtimes it almost dies when i start it. i think that is the main feul relay.

i think i need to clean the vaccum modulator valve but i dont kno where it is located on my tranny

the previous owner broke the shift lock and my check engine light goes on and off. and sutimes when i put it in park it dusnt register and wont let me take my key out of the ignition.

i know its a POS but i like it. even with all the problems and high miles it still runs like a champ.

i know manual is faster. i sold my good car to pay court fines bought this integra for my girl to drive. she just got her permit and cant drive stick. and i lost my lisence so its pretty much for her

I want to say that if you clean out your intake and all the other things you mentioned, it might help. Then again, it also sounds like your transmission needs a tune up, also! I would go ahead and just rebuild that also... If she can't drive a stick, teach her! If you can't drive a stick, find someone who can! :D It's not all that hard, just seems like it, at first... Parking lots are a great place to learn... Automatics are not really all that fast, in the first place... Go look at the car and driver results on automatics vs. 5 speeds...

This doesn't need to be another manual versus automatic debate.

However if it's honestly taking 10 seconds to get to twenty, there is something seriously wrong with it.

And i'm sure if it's taking ten seconds to get to twenty it's getting horrible gas mileage!

No offense but how much do you know about automatics? Got a buddy that runs 11's in his 94 auto civic. It's all on what u ate building it for. What is the purpose of building your car
