oohh,ok

Hey there teggy owners, after a looooong discussion and complaints,I took the head to a machine shop, but since were in thanksgiving,I'll receive the head completely done on Tuesday (i skipped hairline cracks check, cause this had had never a rebuild before and it didn't looked at all dirty on the outside, what I'm buying tomorrow are the rings, and main rod bearings, and I'm also having trouble finding a crane and a engine stand,so i don't really know if i might be able to pull the engine out,(don't know where to rent one)

if i get everything,i'll finish it on thanksgiving,(i might not need the helms at all, since i found both the helms and the original FSM online, just need to have my laptop in the garage all the time)

I think getting it pressure checked for cracks would be more important than anything else.. you don't want to slap it all together and discover you have a bad head. Make sure it's checked for warpage too.. even the slightest bit can screw things up.

Make sure you get the right size main/rod bearings. Check the crank for correct side, out-of-round.. that kind of thing. You might also consider getting the rods resized. My machine shop charged $12 a piece. So $50 for a "good-as-new" set of rods.

hey there, teggy owners,as for today, i couldn't do anything because of the thanksgiving (NAPA is closed as for today),but my plan was to replace the rings today, unfortunately, since this happened,i'm stuck at home doing nothing,oh well,we'll see if i can get the rings tomorrow,so i can re-ring the pistons.

Probably cheaper to order them online. They were like $70 at part stores when I looked. $50 or so online.

That's true, but they weigh like a fraction of a pound. Shipping shouldn't be bad.
I'm interested to see how it comes out. I've been holding off on my engine, i'm trying to save up for a turbo lol.

Hey again, teggy owners,as for today, all i got to do was co clean the valve cover (coudln't do anything else cause it got dark),i went to buy the rings, unfortunately, they didn't had them, was a special order, and they should be here by wednesday,as for today:

I want to color the valve cover Red,so i chose this one (can i apply primer before the paint???)

that paint stripper did an awesome job:

tomorrow i'll be painting it,also i got a hold of a set of feeler gauges and a torque wrench, sadly,i will not be changing rod and main bearings (unless they are very worn and/or damaged),due to economical constraints (i will sure replace them, after i get a new job)!!!

Main's can't be changed after the motor is in. You can change half of them, but half is still under the crank.

I don't think you will need primer on the valve cover. Make sure you wipe it down with alcohol or something though. What did you pay for that paint stripper? I hear everyone using aircraft grade paint remover on the valve cover.

You should hold off on the engine until you can afford new main/rod bearings. You might be able to get a machine shop to order them in for you at a good price, or you might be able to order them online. I think mine were around $50 for both.

true, but, truth is,that my sister need this car,and i already run out of budget,i ordered water pump, all belts (t-belt included),rings, complete head gasket set,2 engine mounts (that were completely gone),distributor(just the plain core,(as the other one internals are brand new,the core is the one that broke in a half)) ,and i still gotta pay for the head job,

overall:$550,heck i even surpassed the price i estimated, which was $450,(i had to buy some tools that id didn't have),and i still have to buy hoses, all hoses, even upper and lover rad hose, were bulged.

but we'll see,i haven't even pulled the block out yet,everything is disconnected,but i need a hoist and a stand.

waiting to see how everything will turn out!!!

Engine building adds up fast. I have my uncles torque wrench lol. I've been borrowing it for like six months now. Come to think of it, I also have his compression tester, leak down tester and hone. Haha.

Picking up a turbo tomorrow. <3
