Difference of b18a1 and b18b1?

So I'm planning to go LS/VTEC on my b18a1, but my mechanic is arguing with me that I can't do that on my b18a1 he said that it can only be done on the b18b1 or the jdm b18b which is completely wrong right?.. what's the difference of the two blocks? so I can prove my mechanic that he's wrong....

LSV can be done to your b18a.
you know you can save yourself a little bit of money if you do it yourself, well if you are good at that kind of stuff.
theres a full DIY on it on g2ic.

the b18a1 and b18b1 blocks are for the most part identical, if you're a1 block has high mileage i wouldnt go lsvtec on it without getting it rebuilt

The differences lie within the cams, and the ECU (and I guess the IM, if it was obd0) Everything else is the same.

actually I want to do it my self, but work is keeping me busy so It will take a while that's why i decided i'll just bring it to a mechanic..

my block has 220k km on it now, but when i go LS/V the full swap head will include the b18c pistons too.. then I'll just replace the rods and valve spring,retainers after...

So I went to my mechanic and showed him the specs. of the a1 and the b1 that I printed from wikipedia.. at first he was silent when he saw it then after he said "so when are we going to start swapping the vtec head?" ..lol... I just told him that I won't swap the head anymore, but truth is I just don't want him to work on my swap anymore... lol...

Your mechanic is full of shit. The top-end bolt-ons have minor differences - TB, IM, head flow. It varies a little between the 90-91 motors, 92-93, and 94-01. But for all intensive purposes they're the 'same'.

i got a 95 integra with a b18b1 block and i want to convert a b18a1 tranny onto it will it work
