hey ya'll today i discovered something very sad to me, I noticed that my cv joints, boots (OMFG) were broken and thats where all the horrendous noise was coming from...FML :(. I asked a local mechanic how much he would fix it for and he said 500 dollars...wtf seriously? I dont got that much...FML again...so I did some research on how to fix my own joints hoping it wouldnt be quite as hard and it says i gotta pull out the transaxle or something like that with a bunch of stuff and that i need certain tools for it...FML once again...Should i just sell it(which i really dont want to cuz i love this car)? or atleast die trying to fix it?Anyways does anyone know how to fix the cv joints in a 91 integra ls, i would appreciate it tons!

I'm sure you can find a manual for it online. Replacing the shafts right? I don't see it being that bad to replace them yourself.
Don't sell the car cause of it. If anything drive it into the ground.

Oh, something I discovered over the years of owning FWD cars..
Reverse Donuts Destroy Axles. :D

Replace the whole shaft, re-man ones are like $50 to $60 from the local stores I checked out here. The only special tool you need is the right sized socket to get the bolt that holds the axle into the hub.

Google for a how to.

What kinda noise do you have and are the boots tore on either of them?

He said that the shafts and boots were broken.
I think it should be pretty straight forward right?

You did it again ;)

Lets see, things you need to replace the axles...

Ball joint separator (so you dont damage your lower or upper ball joints)
32mm Socket
Breaker Bar
17mm wrench
Prybar
dead blow hammer, or hammer and block of wood/something to deaden the blow.
...maybe a couple other things
Plus new or remanufactured axles and transmission fluid.

Drain transmission fluid.
Break free the axle nut on both side of the car (center of wheel)
Loosen lug nuts
Jack car up
Take of wheels

Passenger side:
Remove the cotter pin in the lower ball joint nut. remove nut.
Remove the axle nut if you havent already
Using the ball joint separator, break the balljoint free from the lower arm.
Tap on the end of the axle with a dead blow hammer, so it slides though the hub slightly.

Lift the hub out of the lower control arm, push the axle the rest of the way out. Put the axle out of the tranmission.

Same thing for the driver side, except you need to pry the axle out of the half shaft gently.

Its labor intensive as you can see. Its not like changing the oil.

after changing them so many times, its as easy as changing oil..

Pshhh

I didnt say it was hard (although the first time everything takes longer). I said labor intensive because it takes a bit of time to do it, then put it back together. Shops charge by the hour, so a couple hours = a chunk of moneyyyyy.

You can swap my axles if you want. Ill sit back and eat a sammich :)

A good whack with the dead blow hammer on each side of the knuckle and/or leaving the castle nut just on the end of the ball joint and smacking the top of the nut to force it out does wonders.. Pickle forks suck and can tear your grease cap.

I still would like to know what kinda noise you're hearing, a bad CV joint typically clicks on harder turns when it's bad, if it's a roaring or something else, I would look elsewhere.
