1991 won't start when it's been in the heat for a while

Hi everyone,

My Integra has a recurring problem. When it sits in the sun for a while and gets hot, it will either start and immediately die or not start at all. If I open the windows, and pop the hood and let the car cool off for 5 minutes it usually starts up with no problem.

Summer is almost over and it shouldn't be a problem as the weather cools down, but I'd like to know what exactly is the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks :)

had the same problem with my nissan, the coolant temp sensor was messed up and telling the car it was like -50 degrees and it would just dump fuel into the combustion chamber

My first thought is check the main fuel relay. They are a common problem now being that they are near the end of their lifespan. It's located under the dash behind the steering wheel.

x2. Take out your main relay and put it in the fridge for about 30 min. Then put it back in and try to start. That's how I figured out why mine wouldn't start. It's maybe a $45 replacement.

fuel flood, kinda like a carb does, but in this case it sounds like the fuel presure in the line is bypassing the seal, just check your fuel injector seals.I had my 1992 GS-R since 1998 I never had an issue with main fuel relay its just a stupid myth.

Because 100% of Hondas use a main relay once in their life. Just like MKII Supras go through at least 1 head gasket in their life because Toyota tq'd them down very poorly. It's what most people have problems with. When you are trying to diagnose a problem, you try the most common solution first.

MAIN RELAY! Right under the board, left to the steering wheel. Cost between 50-70 bucks and it's a "do it yourself" thing.

Three weeks old lol.
Plus there's a "Main relay fix" thread in the how to forum. Worth checking out imo.
