Idle Overheating

I had this same problem, my fans were not kicking in. So I just jumped the fan plug with a wire going from one side of the plug to the other and they just kick on when I turn the key on and always run. Works for me lol

is your cooling fan turning on? usually that is the case the reason it doesnt happen while driving is because air is pushed across the radiator but at idle if the fan doesnt work no air will go across the radiator. idle it and see if the fan kicks on if not you can hoook it to a toggle switch

If you're driving, the car is getting cooled, and if you have the fan blasting it is not running at operating temperature.

Your friend did a hack job procedure to his car in a couple minutes? That's cool.

i hate to tell you, but when you're on the highway doing 65mph you're getting more air pushed through your radiator than MOST fans can pull- especially a radiator fan.

IIRC radiator fans simulate the air flow of driving roughly 10-15mph.

think about what you're saying for a second, you're saying that when the car is moving at 25+ Mph, that air is not going to affect the car as much as a radiator fan that barely blows air. If you're able to drive 75mph on the freeway and that air doesnt cool your car down, wtf makes you think a small fan that blows at a low speed is going to affect your operating temperature.

Think about what you're for a secend, the fan doesn't "blow" it pulls in fresh air making the grill an inlet.

Also, all engines are suppose to operate at a certin temp, having a fan to be on all the time, will have the engine running cooler, and not at operating temperature.
Another thing, the fan is only suppose to turn on when you're in hot and heavy city traffic, because there is no wind hitting the radiator which will turn on the fan, when traffic frees up, the coolent in the radiator will cool down, turning off the fan.

If you NEED your fan to pull in fresh air all the time to stop overheating, than theirs a problem in the cooling system, and that must be fixed properly and FAST.

i dont really give a shit what you say or think honestly because im speaking from personal experience and i know plenty of people who have used this method with no problems, op, you can either run your fan to a switch, or you can run it constantly, its up to you

Fixed.

LOL i guess its easy to say peoples car's are ghetto when you havent done shit to yours. Theres nothing with wiring your fan to be on all the time, added piece of mind that your car will not over heat anymore. It will reach operating temperature and stay there.

This isn't about my car. This is another persons thread not yours. Keep it on subject or gtfo. :)

tell me to keep it on subject when you call my car ghetto? i gave the op the information he needed, which unlike yours, has first hand experience to back it up

You gave the guy wrong info. You told him to do something bad to his car. You didn't try trouble shoot the problem why his temps are shooting high when they shouldn't be.

If someone asked something like this, you should point them in the right direction.

you're an idiot, if his car is only over heating when he is stopped, his fan is not turning on. if his thermostat was getting stuck it would over heat at other times as well. He can either buy a new fan if his is broken, or run a switch to the fan, or wire the fan to come on with the engine, all of those will fix the problem, which is what he wanted, theres nothing wrong with any of them.

Op, if you're worried that it is not only your fan, replace your thermostat since it is extremely cheap and easy to do, check your radiator, feel for cold spots, that way you know if theres any type of blockage, do a coolant flush as well, which is easy and cheap, and once you're done with all these processes including fixing the fan you'll have the piece of mind that your cooling system is running properly

If his fan doesn't work, than he should test it out to even see if the problem is the fan. If it doesn't he could buy one cheap at the junk yard or buy it new. Problem solved.

ok, if it was a thermostat, coolant, or radiator, his car would over heat at random times, no matter the driving conditions, if your car is over heating ONLY while not moving, it obviously means that your fan (which assists the car in keeping cool in times like this) is either faulty, or the fan switch is faulty, if the op has posted a thread asking how to keep the fan on, i would assume he's already tested it to make sure it still works, and i would expect you to know, since you're apparently so knowledgable, that just because the fan doesnt turn on, doesnt mean that its broken
