My Build So Far...

I think I'm going to go with an A/M build. I love turbo's, but I love sleepers even more. And from what I'm hearing, I can make more HP doing an A/M build.

DC Sports headers
Invidia test pipe w/ no axle back
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
AEM SR Intake (Probably going cold air or whale penis soon)
BLOX FPR

I think next I'm going to get a bigger TB (68mm?). Any ideas after that? Trying to figure out where I'm going with this... Never done an A/M build, just turbos.

1st of all... who ever told you all motor makes more power, doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Stay away from him.

Secondly. With your current mods, that Fuel regulator won’t do anything for you.

Third. The whale penis is a piece of crap intake. It has had numerous dyno test and has failed miserably against $30 ebay intakes. That thing makes no power difference. Cold air intake is also bad news for a daily driver.

Fourth. Buy a turbo kit :D

Im not trying to be mean, just pointing you in the right direction.

you would have to get higher comrpession i think, uhm cams, cam gears, pulleys, you should deff get a intake thermal gasket its proven to give 7 to 10 wheel HP,

but yea you can deff make way for HP with bein boosted, all the videos you watch do you ever see cars over 400hp on All Motor? there all boosted.

Youre not going to make much horsepower unless you completely rebuild your engine.

your mod list right now will only yield you a couple horses. not even like, 20 more hp.

as of right now, you dont need bigger TB yet, that thing cost you money but you'll end up loosing power when your mods are not there. The quicker and cheaper way to get you to 200-250 (whp?) or even more is boosting it. N/A will cost lots of money and not much power (***actually i'm slowly build mine N/A )

He's right about everything. Except the whale penis, idk I haven't researched it in a while. On 1.8L all-motor, you will NEVER make as much power as a turbocharged version of the same motor (if you're both shooting for peak power). Now, depending on what you plan to do with the car, building NA may still be the best choice.

Basically we need to know: what are your plans and power goals?

i just think it would be cool to have a motor build inside and out THEN turbo it

Well building for NA and building for boost follow two different philosophies, so that's really not practical or sensical at all. Obviously you should use forged internals on a boosted motor, but you need to factor in compression ratios, the type of pistons you're using (dome, flat top,) etc etc. And that's just to start.

Not trying to be mean, but I think you need to use the search bar and figure out the difference between a proper NA build and a proper turbo build, that will answer many of your questions.

I love N/A but imo boost is Better/cheaper and easier to make a lot of power. if you want to go NA get a gsr/type-r motor go ls vtec or build up a crazy ls or b20 motor. Either way though some one with the same motor and amount of money spent on boost will have more power per buck. Do what you want though and be happy with it.

I really would want to get 200-250hp. I like the idea of having all my internals done with no noticeable change to the exterior of the engine bay (of course with out the ovious things)

boost it, paint you're inter cooler with High heat black paint/radiator paint, and run a tucked turbo manifold or rear mounted turbo setup( that one is kinda scary to me)
