Lugs keep coming off...

So i'm beginning to wonder if my studs are bad or something because there are two lugs, one on each front wheel, that keep coming loose. This causes a knocking noise from the wheel and a vibration in the steering wheel. How would I go by figuring out this problem...

There is no reason they should come loose if you are torquing them properly. Do it a criss-cross pattern to 100 ft-lbs and there is no reason they should budge

nothing from nowhere
look for corrosion on the mating surfaces

also check the actual lugnut. I had the same problem on my dads truck and it was the lug was stripped.

All of the above a very possible. I would check to see if the lug is stripped or if the threads are bent/damaged.

Keep on Truckin
what they all said... and even if they are only to 80 ft/lbs you should be just fine

Are they aftermarket lugs on OEM wheels? Aftermarket lugs have a cone shape while OEM are acorn shaped.

are you using oem lugs with aftermarket wheels? if so thats why

oem wheels only work with oem lugs
aftermarket works with aftermarket lugs. the seat for the lugs in teh wheel is different

Technically not true Spoon lug nuts are made with spherical seat, not conical like most aftermarket lugs. Even though the wheels they sell use a conical... spoon fails.

Why 100? Factory recommended torque is 80.
I don't know, because that's what I've always torqued them too lol. The tensile strength of the stud will still hold over 100. That is also what any tire place will torque them too

hope matt doesnt see that. but i always thought (after reading a class handout) that aftermarket lugs go with aftermarket wheels
