if he went with a gsr head wouldnt that mean going with ls vtec?I have a 99 GS Auto and the trans will be strong enough for quite awhile but the thing you will run into is being able to tune it. If you are serious about building a motor I would get a stick. I looked into building a motor but its just not worth building an auto. I am just making mine a clean dd and then going to get another teg for building a fast car. IMO
Also if you go with a gsr head you will have to get the ecu off a auto gsr, those are also rare and expensive

Bolt-ons won't give you +20 horsepower. Not even close to that.Anything simple bolt-on (like, intake, header, exhaust) you should be fine as long as your tranny has fluid in it.
If you bought a turbokit, then your tranny would probably eat itself
Stock you have ~140hp @ the crank. With full bolt ons you should be around ~160hp @ the crank, or 140hp @ the wheels. With a turbo you would be pushing over 200hp to the wheels and that's too powerfull for a stock automatic tranny

Yes a tranny cooler and the level 10 converter is about all you will need. Give the fluid a good flush too. The converter will help your power delivery as well, it will feel a bit crisper. I ran a 75 wet shot on my Auto LS and it took it like a champ. I must say, Auto's do love the spray. An auto is actually a plus on N2O. But if that shock didnt rip it apart on a stock set-up around 80k then you should be fine.The auto tranny will hold 200whp fine. So far the best option I've found is using a SAFC for tuning-which works fine if done right. I was trying out AEM's FIC but I ran into a few problems-the main one bineg that it would not hold the program after you disconnected the laptop. I was getting really good results-around 162whp on a mustang dyno. The auto tranny is slower cause it has way taller gears. To increase performance, have your torque converter rebuilt by Level 10 or pro-tech transmissions-around $500. Another cheap mod is to add a tranny cooler-real simple to install.
yea. When I had mine I wanted those paddles they have so bad, lol but its all in the $. And really its just not worth it on a car thats worth about $5-7kIt's all in how much you want to spend. If you have the money, Level 10 will build you an auto tranny that will outperform a manual-cost is around $4k though.
