I understand the physics of ABS and how it works, but it DOESN'T improve stopping distance... it takes the car further to stop when ABS is active
Uh....no! ABS takes the guess work and human error out of threshold braking which unpredictable at best on the constantly changing pavement surfaces of most of America's crappy streets

okay... you're right... I mean taking pressure off the brakes will help stop faster...

ABS just pulses the brakes.... It's not some genius program that scans the road and knows exactly when to apply and un-apply the brakes. When it feels one wheel slower than the rest, it lets off the brakes, then when the wheel catches back up, it grabs again.

ABS is only to keep control of the vehical so you don't spin out of control.

Not really. It is to keep the tires from locking up so you don't jam the brakes and lock the tires up and slam into the person in front of you. Apparently alot of people are stupid and freak out and just slam the brakes as hard as they can. Hence the name, "Anti-lock Braking System"

I'm ready as well. Only 1 of my 3 cars has ABS and I've been driving around in the tropical storm all day. Of course I wouldn't be smart enough to use the car that has ABS and traction control LOL

Oh but if you lock the wheels up doing like 60 I gaurentee most people are going to be spinning out of control.

True as long as you know how to brake, an in-experienced driver locks them up with no abs their speed I believe will initially increase and I have expderienced it myself as a youngster just sliding straight into something, in my case a tree, can't steer locked up wheels, and yes I do know it is possible lock up abs. I by no means will take mine out, maybe on a trackcar because you can't have abs on an scca track.

Im in a band DO ME!!!!!
My ABS unit doesnt even work haha, im gonna remove it eventually cuz i aint repairing that shit, waaaaay to expensive. Plus not to mention if you are having to press your pedal that hard you shouldnt be driving and pay more attention to the road. I mean yeah there are circumstances, but i mean seriously 9/10 times ABS or not if you slam on the brakes im sure you will be hitting something, just ABS will keep you going straight into whatever it is, haha. I mean sure it helps with the braking process, but like I said, you really shouldnt be slamming on the brakes in the 1st place if you are paying attention.

Depends on the class you are racing in. Some allow it. Most club event don't where alot of Solo autoX do allow it. ABS is not completely banned from SCCA. I took the ABS out of my Eclipse GSX though. It's not a daily driver by no stretch of the means though

These steps will make ABS maybe not so important to everyone, get off the cell phone, save the hamburger for the house or wherever you stop, if you need to make a call find somewhere to pull over for a minute, don't ride the ass of the person in front of you, don't accel so damn hard at traffic lights, etc, etc ...

oh and learn how to brake.

simple shit ...

if it were so important and so dangerous not having abs then it would be required. And every car would have abs. People just get wrapped around it all too much.

just wait .... the same morons who made it so airbags are standard will eventually push for ABS to be standard ... i had a friend who thought it was standard but he bought an 06 base altima and it didnt have it ...

all this bullshit does is just push the price of a new car up even more
