Cornering in neutral gear?

many of my friends told me that it's not good for traction if you corner with a neutral gear

although i never go into a corner with a neutral gear (that's how i learned to drive), i would also like to know the principle behind this

can someone please explain?

then what about bringing the car to stop?
say you're at 40mph, 4th gear
do you downshift to 2nd before you completely stop the car
or you just pop it in neutral and brake?

i use my tranny to help me stop... so yes.. i down shift... 40?.. 3rd i think?.. idk?.. i go by feel.. i also like to do the heel-toe technique.. cuhz its better for your car.. and feels so much smoother...

hum i guess i'm the lazy one
i just put it in neutral and let the car roll to stop as i brake
but i also put it in 3rd if there're lots of cars on the road...just feel safer

lol last time a friend of mine downshifted his crx accidentally from 5th to 2nd after he got off a freeway ramp
and the engine was revved to at least 15k lol

WHOA!.. 15k? i didn't kno those suckas rev that high!!.. haha.. buh yea.. i only down shift cuhz i'm also scared of warping my rotors.. which cost's an ass load to replace.. and i'm low on budget.. so!.. hahaha!

I only downshift when entering a corner. I go straight to neutral when coming to a complete stop. That's a waste of gas when you downshift everytime you come to a stop. There's not benefit from being in neutral during a corner.

downshifting causes more stresssssss nucker! that's the reason why you have brakes. i'd rather change brakes than the clutch.

Correct^

I only use engine braking on the track because you can be faster and smoother that way and also allows you to use left foot braking and the throttle to aid in weight transfer to tighten your line and power through the apex. Otherwise, there really is no point in increasing wear on hard to replace parts during regular driving. Brakes were meant to stop you and are easy to replace. Clutch is a little more of a pain in the ass lol. Really high rpm engine braking is also very hard on valvetrain parts

Damn you guys got to it before me. Downshift braking anywhere but on a track is pointless and a waste of expensive parts. Not to mention youll save gas just poppin it in neutral and coasting up.

Oh and guys his original question was

many of my friends told me that it's not good for traction if you corner with a neutral gear
So to answer that, no. Being in neutral vs in gear wont affect traction (unless your in gear giving throttle, then youll get less.) Actually in neutral you will deaccelerate their by giving you more traction due to lower speed in the corner.
