ive heard alot of bad things about royal purple which im using now im thinking of switching to mobil 1 synthetic, but some ppl say once u use rp your stuck with it and changing to a different oil would harm your engine. or that u have to change to conventional oil then synthetic. i have 108k miles on my engine. idk how long its been on royal purple but the guy i bought it from said he uses it. what do i need to do b4 i switch to mobil 1 synthetic?

Old wise tail. It won't hurt you engine to switch to a different oil. Even if you went from synthetic to conventional.

Although - AMSOIL states that in a car that has over 100k on it, the change intervals are different. I have to look at my dealer info for how much its chanegd, but it doesnt last as long. I think its a difference of 2000 miles or so

Convertional Oil is just oil and synthetic is synthetic, you can mix any oil of the same Weight and Density. If you wanna mix W&D doesn't you can but its a little weird. Synthetic is just a better oil because of its break down properties do to the a more uniform molecular state.

and the flash point is way higher especially with amsoil. Like it shits on mobil 1.

^totally biased and truthful at the same time.

I've been running Mobil 1 0w-40 in everything I own. It has the highest phosphorus levels of any non-race oil. It's harder on emmisions systems, but I rather replace a cat then my engine.

So whats the best? I heard Royal Purple is better than Mobil 1... Seriously, is there a difference? I also heard to use diesel 15w40 because it has high levels of zinc to protect the cam and lifters which other oils for gas engines lack due to emission systems... I usually use either valvoline max life 10w40 or castrol high mileage 10w40 because they are both semi-synthetic and cheaper than full synthetic. I have a 99 Integra LS which is full stock no mods. any ideas? thanks.

It is absolutely crazy what people will post on this forum. Old wives tales, disinformation, incorrect information, and out and out lies designed to get you to ruin your car or engine. I've noticed it is rampant here and some posters need to be banned for it.

A high tolerance precision engine that will last you 250,000 miles with proper care should never get oil so thick it can't flow properly. Go by the owners manual. The car maker has absolutely nothing to gain by telling you to use an oil that will ruin your engine. The beer swilling morons who haunt this forum would take great delight in doing just that.

So be very careful about taking or beliving everything you read here. If is sounds STUPID it probably is STUPID. 15w40???? Jesus Christ amighty!
