Do research, lots of it. If he hasn't already I think it's Rx8 club has a ton of threads in the noob section to read. They aren't cheap cars to have.
I wanted one really badly, but it just wasn't practical.

Aka no low end torque.
Also, Mods are very expensive for Rx8s. For example a good catback for our cars are like $600ish and we get horsepower out of them. For the Rx8 it's closer to 2 grand for a good system and you can lose horsepower pretty easily.

Let me give you some advice from someone who's hopped through 4 different occupations.
Get something done first, even if you don't like it, whatever you start with, finish. Then you'll at least have someway to make money and something to fall back on if shit hits the fan, once you've completed that, go searching for your dream. If you fuck around you'll just waste precious years and things will be harder.

I have 6 years in auto parts, and almost 2 years in auto repair (real world experience not school-not to discredit a schools education but I've always felt it's better to put yourself out there). My ooh shit plan is waiting tables/bussing tables lol I did 2 years of that shit before college.

Almost bought an 04 RX-8 but for many many reasons, like expensive mods and it being auto I changed my mind, then again with 75k minles and an asking price of $3500... I shoulda grabbed that ass...
