Tried to learn stick in an F-250 dump bed today...

So my girl friends dad tried to teach me how to drive stick today in his truck. I wanted to learn because I'm trading my 91 LS for a 5 speed soon. So long story short, shifting is easy for me when moving, but I could not for the life of me get this truck's big ass up a hill without bucking or stalling. I was at a stop sign at the top of a hill and I couldn't go without stalling. It took me like 6 tries to get off that hill. His truck lost a lot of cranking amps off the battery today haha.

I think driving a manual truck is way different than a manual teg.
Just give it some gas and let of the clutch very slowly until you feel the car engage. Then when the car moves, let off the clutch.
With practice, this process would be very quick.

Same thing I thought. Clutch was stiff as hell as the give point was almost right when the clutch disengages so that's why I kept stalling on the hill. I couldn't give myself enough time to move from the brake to the gas.

Both my tegs have engaged about half way when I push the clutch. So easy to drive.

Uphill is hard until you get the hang of it. You will eventually know how much to push the gas pedal in automatically, then hills will be your bitch.

As somebody who has a DD/work F250 I can offer you this advice:

-the truck has enough torque to keep you from rolling back even without giving it gas
-On a hill you just gotta be quick. (Find that engagment point and keep it in mind)
-The clutch is funky at first because yes, it engages almost all the way at the top, but I like it
-Keep it on flat ground until you 100% have the engagement point/gas pedal pressure down, then the hill will be easy.
-If you have to ride the clutch a bit it won't be end of the world. The truck is made to move 15,000 lbs from a dead stop. The clutch can handle it. Not like the teeny little think in a teg.
-You WILL ride the clutch on a hill start as a novice.

Driving a standard truck is so damn easy compared to an integra. Actually having existent torque at 1,000 rpms helps.
I learned to drive standard on my f250 and it took me about 3 hours to go from novice to driving around town.

PM me if you got any more questions.

So you think if I can learn in this truck, driving in a teg will be a piece of cake?

After you drive the truck and get the basics down you'll be driving the teg with no problem. It takes like 5 minutes to relearn the clutch engagement point and you're set.

Then you'll be thanking whatever deity you believe in that you no longer have the drive the truck. Honda clutch's are so easy..

Stay calm, a lot of people for lack of a better term panic on hills. Took me a day in my teg to learn to drive stick. You shouldn't have a problem in a Honda
