Why do people over price their cars?

Im helping my friend get a new car and one of the cars he's looking at is a GS300 and every one i find is so over priced its crazy. Thats just one example, i see so many people over price their cars its outrages i understand people are going to lowball so thats why people slightly raise their original price but when someone is asking $4k+ for what their car is worth its crazy. Another example, a 02 civic si with 165k miles with some too big ugly wheels with I/H/E and they want $9.5K, as if lmao

02 SIs can go for 7k if there in nice condition. Id pay 6k for 04-05 SI with 165k miles

There was an 03 civic si hatch for 5k. 76k miles. Salvage title. Almost bought it. The part out on that would be more than 5k or jump the engine trans into a cheap rs shell. Maximum racecar.

but why when i look at the value of it in todays economy with the mileage and condition on KBB and edmunds its in the $4k-$5k. 7k for that car with that mileage is just overpaying in my opinion. Even without kbb and all that i wouldnt pay over $5500 and ti would have to be damn clean for me to pay that much. I guess im just jewish lol i dont like over paying for anything lol

I remember when i was still looking for a car before i got my teggy i was looking at getting another em2 and came across a guy with an 02 ex model 5spd with also 164k. he hadnt replaced the timing belt, water pump, clutch or anything and was asking $6k lol that car was a ticking time bomb lol im sure he didnt sell it it probably blew up lol

not really lol not the little 1.6l NAs lol my friend has one and its damn slow lol i will say they are quick to response and nimble little cars but it takes forever to get them up to speed

well when it comes to actual racing and modifying thats different lol but im talking about the regular guy who just does basic mods like minor suspension with an I/H/E lol basically close to stock
