Fuck yah its a good deal if you dont have to worry bout putting possible removed smog components back on if you live here in cali. Slap a vtec conversation kit built or bought and smoke just bout anything that tries to run you or put a gsr in it.

Yes it seems like a good deal, however you may want to check for botched bondo work since it seems to be in "primer" as well as checking to make sure that his lists of modifications is accurate, as well as a healthy test drive. Dont "slap" anything on your car if you do choose to buy it, and don't try to smoke any car, because street racing is illegal. Welcome to CI!

It won't be for racing, it will be for the MPG and reliability. By "botched bondo work", do you mean cracks in the body? I didn't know it was primed, I thought it was some kind of flat black paint job haha, I will be meeting him at 10 AM tomorrow, he has another buyer at 11 AM who wants it too.

What should I look for besides being mechanically sound?

Hey 99 if your scared go to church....... n4m if you can compression test it that would be the best. Pull the dipstick smell the oil for gas or light it on fire, drop some on hot exhaust manifold, watch for bubbles from coolant mixing. Make sure temp goes up slowly to op temp and fans kick on at least once by them selfs. Transmission wise should be a slight resistance when shifting all of equal pressure appliied. Drive axles clickin durning turning out board cv boot damaged, clicking when accel or decel inboard cv boot damage.

Huh? I'm hella lost after that second sentence. What are you telling OP to check for?

Thats the smart thing to do to see how an engine, transmission, and drive axles are running in good conditions if you dont understand what i said then thats your problem. Im just lettin the guy know if you dont have anything to offer towards his question then leave the snide comments to your self. Time to grow up do not make me have to report you as well.

Do not make you have to report me? That was a serious question. You wrote a full sentence that was completely incoherent so how do you expect the OP to understand what you're recommending? Didn't mean to hurt any feelings about. Geez.

Just got back from looking at the car.

The driver side mirror is missing.

The trunk isn't pretty, there is no carpet and it's showing the spare tire hole, but doesn't have a spare tire. There used to be a leak in the back window where it leaked onto the carpet that used to be there.

It has an amp and sub, sound system sounds great, no rattling caused by the bass.

It is NOT primed, when he bought the car he sanded it with 4000 or 5000 grit and spray painted it flat black.

I couldn't test drive it because "I'm not on the insured list" however, he did drive it.

It sounds great, drives great, seems to shift great. It has a stage 2 clutch.

The speedometer is Japanese, it's KPH, not MPH.

Interior is in OK condition. Seats are pretty good except for the driver side, has a little rip.

It has an aftermarket steering wheel, looks nice.

The power steering belt is missing, said the last owner removed it for the extra HP. It seems to handle great on the road, he went around some wacky curvy roads real fast.

Door hinges are good and have never been welded.

Driver side door had a new motor put in, now it can't control the passenger's window. I think it's just disconnected.

I got him to bring the price down from 2 grand to $1,700.

What do you guys think? I will be meeting him tomorrow for payment/title.

there are other ways which are way more conventional to check
1: blown head gasket - run the car and look for coolant not mixing with the oil aka honda milkshake.
2. Leak down and compression test will tell you the whole story
3. you should have mentioned that checking the car when its COLD will show rod knocks and other things

he was asking a question. Quit being so defensive over someone asking a harmless question. Starting to get my point about you stirring the pot huh? Because no one was "attacking you" you were the one who lashed out.
