i had recently drove my 01 dc2 from louisiana to california and by the floor board and the center console got hot. its just the exhaust and i heard from a few people that honda didn't do a very good job putting heat resistant material to protect from the exhaust. its normal.

maybe the owner before you put a new shifter and didn't put back the heat shield.

I drive mine without any heat shields on and I notice some heat but I don't worry about it. Put down some insulation under the carpet if you think it's going to be a problem. The sun is the only thing that makes my shift knob hot, and I mean very hot.

I believe its normal. Mine does the same , you feel heat coming from the shifter console e brake area. Lol I feel you on the ac thing. Its a power robber , but feels good on those hot days.

Yeah my ebrake gets hot, and no matter what there is always hot air blowing in from the vents no matter what. No fans, no options selected, it will still blow out hot air.

Really sucks! I rarely ever use ac ever. Only when I drive on the high way, which is like never. I hate AC. It's such a parasite.
