Replacing Automatic Seatbelts?

Hey all,

So i took my acura integra 1992 to the Acura dealership today to have the automatic seatbelts looked at. The passenger side worked fine, the driver side, would go down, then stay there.

They said yes i was under warranty, but no they couldnt fix it because Acura had discontinued making the parts that were needed to fix it so they didnt do anything.

I went to a junkyard today and got a whole new driver side seatbelt mechanism. My question that i need answered is, How does one go about replacing the automatic seatbelt? Is there a guide of any kind that would help me out? How can i make sure i dont break the trim when i attempt to pull it out?

Thank you for you're help. I really wish Acura would install the part i bought, but because its a used part they cant 100% confirm that its fully functional and safe, and they wont put they're name behind it.

Update:

I Took the trim off, wasnt too hard, only broke two clips.

After installing the seatbelt i got from the junkyard, the seatbelt did the same exact thing as the one before it. I highly doubt the junkyard part was broken, so im guessing the problem could be with the Seatbelt control box by the passengers feet.

Is this possible?

yes it could be that or a bad fuse ....my friends seat belt would move up and down when ever the hell it felt like it and it ended up being a bad fuse...try it

They have to fix it, it's under warranty. Take it back and demand they fix it. I've had two of my three integras warranted out for this same issue. Talk to a manager if needed, but above all, they have to do it. They're just being lazy cuz it's not a paying service.

Trust me I tried. I told them that is a LIFETIME warranty, and obviously my integra still has life in it. But he came back and told me that Acura no longer makes the parts, and a few years ago is when they last made them. Should i just go to a different dealership?

IVE FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM.

Neither the seatbelts, nor the seatbelt control mechanism is the problem. Both of the parts are 100% operational, and im sure the original seatbelt i had on the drivers side was also operational.

I went and plugged everything in, and was looking to determine what made the seabelts move. (Sensor) I looked and looked, after 30 minutes i finally realized that the door latch on the drivers side door was actually faulty, and that when the door is closed the latch does not go all the way back to where its suppose to rest when closed. When I push the latch back to were it is designed to go with a screwdriver, the seatbelt works. This leads me to believe that the problem is with the door latch and it not closing correctly and making the proper connection with the sensor to make the seatbelts go up and down.


TO the person a few posts above this who said his friends seatbelt would go up and down randomly, i believe this to be your problem also. I can imagine that while driving his door latch would raddle back and forth, causing the connection to be made, and then broken, making the seatbelt go up, and back down.


The reason i am posting this is because everyone else that has this problem will learn a new, common problem with the seatbelts.


Tomorrow, im either going to somehow fix the switch (have a few ideas), or im going to call acura and tell them exactly what is wrong, and have them fix that, or worst case scenario is i go down to a junkyard, pull the part out i need, and replace it.

Hey all,

i decided it'd be easier for me to just install a 'switch' that i can flip to activate just the driver side belt.

I just opened up the door panel, and installed the switch on the door because my door latch wasnt making proper connection.


so the seat belts work perfectly fine, but the seatbelt warning light, a long with the beeper keep going off. I decided to just open up that seatbelt mechanism control box, and tear the speaker out. So i have no more seatbelt warning beep, but i still have that annoying flashing light on the dash board. I really dont want to open up the dash, just to put a piece of tape over it. Im thinking of cutting the wire that powers JUST that one dashboard light.

Which wire is the right wire to cut?

Yeah that sound simple,

all the plugs are plugged in, even the ones under the seats. So i dont know what else to try, and because of that ill skip all the trial and error and get rid of the problem the easy way, cut the wire! Which one!?

Blue wire, wait no, the red one, no the black one. Shit, the whole place is gunna blow up!!!!!

I don't think it's as simple as cutting one little "easy to get to" wire for that specific light. Chances are to even get to the right wire you need to pull the gauge cluster.

Is that easy to do? I imagine it just a few screws here, few screws there, pop it out, locate the light bulb and either unplug it, or clip the wire.

If its really hard to do, then ill just put some black electrical tape over the light cause even though i cant hear a beeping, the flashing annoys the shit out of me
