Just got back from the machine shop with the head in hand. Looks good.

milled .020
valve job since some valve seats were out of round
New Valve seals
Price- $175..then cost of valve seals...$40
Im debating on reusing the head gasket. I mean its never seen a heat cycle..but then again. its been torqued down on.

Anyways, I decided to work on the 97 today..5 day weekend.
Well Heres some pics

Ok, now this makes me a little nervous. Not sure whats going on here But there oil on my pistons. I really hope its just from the assembly and the black shit is carbon deposits from the 5 min it did run. Its in Cyl 1-3 but not 4

It's a fresh motor man, you'll have oil in there till the rings seat good. 5 days, you better have that shit running. You probably know but make sure you clean the top of your block off before you put that gasket back on.

yea same one. Now i have a good canidate for a built head when work picks back up. Yea i cleaned everything. I whiped all that oil/carbon up too.
Head is still on the block now, but i have to run to home depot in a sec. I need tape to cover the intake/exhaust openings and to pick up a valve cover gasket.

Yea, if you use that you definitely won't have a problem reusing the gasket. Don't be letting that shit idle a lot when you get it running, check for leaks and go drive it. Find a big hill, put it in 3rd or 4th and just gun it up it. Rings will seat better than ever.
So what's the tape for?
