Would thicker oil do any harm ?

hey i changed the oil on my mother's '04 4 runner and i bought 10w40 oil not realizing it takes 5w30 and it's my first time changing her oil so would that hurt the engine any ?

No ill be fine, just a litle more thicker shouldn't be a problem,

yea i knew it was a thicker oil i just didn't want it to harm her motor though i thought it wouldn't i had to be sure...thanks guys !

i put 10w30 in my teg once, on accident, ran fine and still kicked ass

only problem with thicker oil is it may stiffen your engine up if it gets REALLY cold outside. Like if it's cold out your engine might take a few more cranks to turn over. Not a big deal i accidentally did the same thing to my accord (winter beater) and it's fine besides some harder starting.

i have ran 20w-50 in my car many times. though i dont have to worry about "cold" in arizona
